With 285,000 inhabitants, Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark. It is attractively located at the Bay of Aarhus, surrounded by water, rolling hills and large forests. The city council has decided that one of the many areas in which the city is to develop is the Lisbjerg area to the north of the city. This area is located on a hill slope facing south and east in one of the Aarhus area's spectacular valleys, through which a small river runs. Three old villages are situated in the area: Lisbjerg, Ųlsted and Trige. To the west, the area is delimited by the motorway connecting Aarhus and Randers; to the south, by the forthcoming motorway leading to the Djursland peninsula. In order to obtain the best possible illustrations of the opportunities relating to this demanding planning task, the City of Aarhus will invite entries for an open ideas competition concerning the planning and design of the 550 hectare open area located six kilometres north of Aarhus city centre.
