With the exhibition Idea and Phenomena – Steven Holl, the Architekturzentrum Wien is presenting a major solo exhibition for the first time since it reopened in October 2001. The work of the New York born Steven Holl, one of the most prominent proponents of contemporary American architecture, is made accessible under various aspects. With the help of water-colours and models, Steven Holl's complex conceptual design process is manifested in a visual form; with the presentation of the realised architecture, the focus is put on the phenomena of the interplay of space, light and materials. The hallmark of Steven Holl's architecture is the high degree of its sculptural power of expression, the authenticity of the construction and the particular sensitivity employed in the treatment of space, colour and materials. A catalogue in German/English is being published by Verlag Lars Müller to accompany the exhibition.
