Cosmopolis. Borges and Buenos Aires

località: Barcellona - Spagna
inizio: 01-10-2002
conclusione: 31-01-2002
realizzazione: Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barçelona

"Cosmopolis. Borges and Buenos Aires" -the fourth exhibition in the cycle "Cities and their Writers" which began with "James Joyce's Dublin" and continued with "The Lisbons of Pessoa" and "The City of K. Kafka and Prague"- aims to trace the writer's relationship with his city (which necessarily involves an understanding of the main dilemmas marking Argentine history). The exhibition sets out to show how Borges mythically founded his city and, at the same time, how his literary evolution led him to make it universal, in one of the century's most singular aesthetic operations. The exhibition also aims to situate the main commonplaces of Borges' world (mirrors, tigers, labyrinths, the Other, etc.) in a new light and expound the stylistic evolution of his work, from the baroque tone which characterises his beginnings to the simple mastery of his canonical texts and his final desire for an almost anonymous style of writing.
